Directions
Cleanse: Wash, irrigate, and clean the wound site thoroughly
Prepare the Dressing: Open the sterile MaxioCel Pouch. Depending on the size and depth of the wound, you can cut, fold, or layer the pad. Aim for a slight overlap (about 0.5 cm or 0.2 inches) onto the healthy skin surrounding a flat wound.
Secure: Cover the primary layer with a suitable secondary dressing to hold it securely in place.
How to Remove It
Gently Peel: MaxioCel is designed to lock together using Bioactive Microfibre Gelling (BMG) technology, allowing it to be lifted away smoothly in one whole piece.
Irrigate if Dry: If the dressing feels slightly dry or sticks to the wound soak it with sterile saline or water first.
MaxioCel can remain on a wound for up to 7 days, change the dressing early if fluid begins leaking.

FAQs

What is MaxioCel made of?
It is made of 100% Chitosan, a natural, biocompatible polymer extracted from shellfish. The material is highly purified to remove all protein allergens and is terminally sterilised via gamma irradiation.
Can it cause shellfish allergies?
No. Because all the protein material is completely removed during the rigorous purification process, there is no known contraindication to shellfish. However, as a precaution, it should not be used on patients with a known allergy to chitosan itself.
How does the antimicrobial action work?
The dressing features positively charged (cationic) fibres that electrostatically attract, trap, and kill pathogens within its structure. It is highly effective against common wound bacteria like MRSA, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, and Staphylococcus aureus.
Can it be used on biofilms?
Yes. MaxioCel helps disrupt and remove wound biofilms because the biofilm matrix adheres to the gel layer, allowing it to be safely lifted away during dressing changes.
